Langley Park is a small, busy, international neighborhood, and the best things to do here are to eat well and then explore what's close by: the University of Maryland, Lake Artemesia, the Sligo Creek Trail and Takoma Park are all a short drive away. We're a food hall, so our part of the plan is the eating, and we've kept the rest of this guide to well-known places we're confident about.
Where is Langley Park?
Langley Park sits around the intersection of New Hampshire Ave and University Blvd, right where Prince George's and Montgomery counties meet. It borders Takoma Park, Hyattsville, Adelphi and Silver Spring, with College Park just to the east. The neighborhood is known for its mix of cultures and the many small, family-run shops and restaurants along its main roads.
Where should I eat in Langley Park?
We're biased, but we think BITES Food Court + Bar is a good start, because one stop covers a lot of cravings:
- Ananda Kitchen for vegetarian South Indian: dosa, idli, chaat and thalis. Browse the full menu.
- Charleys Philly Steaks & Wings for cheesesteaks, wings and fries.
- SmoothieFRESH & Bubble Tea for boba, smoothies and mangonadas.
- BITES Bar & Grill for drinks, wings and the game on the screens (21+ for the bar).
Langley Park also has plenty of other independent restaurants and markets worth wandering into. Our where to eat in Langley Park guide has more on what's inside BITES.
What outdoor spots are near Langley Park?
- Lake Artemesia: a lake and park near College Park and Berwyn Heights with a flat, paved loop around the water. Popular for walking, running, biking and bird watching, and it connects to the larger Anacostia trail network.
- Sligo Creek Trail: a long, wooded stream-valley trail running through Takoma Park and Silver Spring. Good for an easy walk or bike ride under the trees.
- Northwest Branch: a stream valley park and trail that runs close to Langley Park, with paths along the creek.
Check park websites for current conditions, parking and hours before you go.
What is there to do at the University of Maryland?
UMD's College Park campus is a short drive east on University Blvd. It's a big, green campus that's nice to walk around, with McKeldin Mall at its center. Depending on the season, you can catch Terrapins games, performances and other public events. Check the university's own calendars for what's on. When you're done, our lunch near UMD guide covers the drive back for a meal.
What about Takoma Park?
Takoma Park is right next door, with a small, walkable downtown, independent shops, cafes and a well-known community feel. It's an easy pairing with a walk on the Sligo Creek Trail.
What's a good plan for an afternoon?
- Walk or bike the loop at Lake Artemesia, or a stretch of Sligo Creek Trail.
- Head to BITES and let everyone pick their own counter: a dosa, a cheesesteak, or a round of bubble tea.
- If there's a game on and you're 21+, stay a while at the bar. See watching the game in Langley Park.
Are there things to do with kids?
Parks and trails are the easy win. For food, BITES is family friendly: kids tend to like cheese dosa from Ananda Kitchen, cheesesteaks and fries from Charleys, and smoothies, bubble tea or ice cream from SmoothieFRESH. Our family dinner guide has more ideas. The bar area is 21+.
Can I bring a group or host something at BITES?
Yes. We host fundraisers for schools, teams and community groups, and you can email community@bitesdmv.com to plan a party or meetup. For students, see our group hangout guide.
